Guitarist Jason Salzman
was born and raised in NY and started playing guitar at the age of 12.
Throughout his high school years, Jason performed around Long Island and
NY with various groups, as well as playing guitar in the school’s Jazz
Ensemble.
Jason attended college at The State
University of New York @ Fredonia. While attending school, Jason
performed regularly with a variety of cover and original groups as well
as participating in numerous recording sessions at the school’s 24-track
facility. He was also involved in various recording sessions in NYC when
returning home on breaks.
After
graduation, Jason moved to Los Angeles to attend the world-renowned
Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT). This experience afforded him the
opportunity to hone his craft and study with instructors of various
backgrounds and expertise. He was also fortunate to study with jazz
guitar great Ted Greene. While attending GIT, Jason was hired as an
instructor for their Summer Session. He graduated with honors and was nominated for two awards: Outstanding Stylist and Player of
the Year. Throughout the year he lived in Los Angeles, Jason gigged
regularly with various groups.
Leaving
Los Angeles, Jason relocated to Athens, GA and continued his music
career. It was in Athens that Jason began teaching and had a roster of
students that numbered upwards of 40 a week. He also began playing with
Funkomatic, an original 6-piece funk band. He spent the next 7 years
writing, recording, and touring the country with the group.
Upon
leaving Funkomatic, Jason moved to Atlanta and took a position with
guitar amplifier/pedal manufacturer Line 6 as a Product Specialist. In
this position he trained the sales staff of vendors, demonstrated
products to end users, conducted clinics and workshops across the
Southeast, and performed at industry trade shows.
Jason is currently
based in Atlanta, GA where he maintains a busy schedule of live and
studio dates as well as having a roster of private students. Jason is also involved in writing and
recording music for various websites and multimedia projects.
His influences are
wide and varied and reflect his diverse taste in music: Mike Landau,
Nile Rodgers, Leo Nocentelli, Adrian Belew, Jim Hall, Grant Green, Roy
Buchanan, Pete Anderson, and The Edge of U2 to name a few.
